ZURICH: GETTING THERE AND AWAY



The airport that connects Zurich to the outside world is the Kloten Airport and it is just 10 Kilometres away from the city centre. International and domestic flights land here to offer you this beautiful city on a silver plate.

Once off the plane, take the train or the bus into town. The train takes 10 minutes to reach the Hauptbahnhof. The trains leave the main station every 15 minutes from 6am to midnight. Before boarding, buy your ticket at the station. There are train connections between Munich, Stuttgart, Milan and Innsbruck. Most Swiss towns are connected to Zurich Hauptbahnhof. And do not worry about trains being delayed or late because everything in this city is on time and the buses and trains are usually precision perfect when it comes to being on time.

There is a good bus network connecting the entire city. There are also trams that service the city. There are boats also on the Limmat River that one can take to get around. The taxis are quite expensive by Swiss standards and charge a fairly hefty price.

The city is located at the northern tip of the Zurichsee (Lake Zurich) and the city is split by the river Limmat. Its a very compact and well laid out city. The main station is located west of the city and is not far away from the Old Town.
The best time to see Zurich is during the pleasant Summertime when one can take part in all sorts of outdoor pursuits. The city is quite popular and it can sometimes be expensive during the peak holiday months and accommodation can at times be difficult to find. Late September and October are good times to go and you will have no problem with accommodation and will more than likely get a better deal. With less congestion and less tourists around, most places will be more relaxed where you can have a nice coffee and chocolate in peace. The city does not get much snow in Winter and is usually frequented by tourists that are only passing through on their way to the beautiful mountain resorts in the countryside. Many tourists stop off in Zurich to go shopping.
