The Botanic Gardens have over 15,000 different plants from different
parts of the world, and including rare plants from Southwest Africa
and New Caledonia. There is also the herbarium which houses over
3 million plants and smells great. The gardens were once privately
owned and there was a villa here on this site, but now the gardens
are owned by the Zurich University.
The Belvoir Park is the largest park in Zurich and is great for recreational
activities as well as a place for chilling out and taking things
easy in peace and quiet.
St. Peters Church, Zurich, is one of the oldest cathedrals in
the city and is famous for having the largest clock face in all
of Europe. The Great Church (Gossmunster) is a 12th century cathedral
and it was Ulrich Zwingli who led an important sect during the
Reformation here in 1540. The Cathedrals twin towers are one of
the most recognisable features of Zurich.
The Altstadt (Old Town) is the historic part of Zurich and has
lots of cobbled stone streets with lovely quaint stores, restaurants
and is full of the city’s important religious landmarks.
