MUSEUMS IN ZURICH



The Museum of Fine Arts has on exhibition, the major works from the 19th and 20th century. Works by Man Ray, Cezanne, Renoir, Monet, Gauguin, Dali, Bacon are all on display with also a few Picassos thrown in for good measure. Also there is the Edward Munch collection at present.

The E.G. Buhrle Collection is very popular with the visitors and has a great collection of French Impressionist works, which include Monet, Van Gogh, Gaugain, Degas and Manet, The Picassos Italian Girl is most impressive. This private collection has also Rembrandt, Guardi and Rubens included in this fine collection. Included in the collection are 24 sculptures from the Middle Ages.

The Swiss National Museum is located in a fake castle like structure and is full of Swiss paintings depicting life in Switzerland with also paintings of prehistoric times as well as modern times. Church art along with old coins, weapons and costumes and work tools on display. The Museum is massive and will take you many hours to digest all its contents.
The Museum of Art (the Kunsthaus) has a great collection of art works since the 17th century as well as the impressive modern paintings.
